What ‘all metadata’ means for videos

The original file may contain location, capture time, camera model, device name, title, comments, chapters, subtitles and other data. The tool copies none of this information. It decodes the visible video track and any available audio track and encodes both anew.

Technical structural data remains necessary

A playable file needs information about its codec, tracks and duration. These technical values are generated anew. They do not come from the original and contain neither its file name nor personal capture information.

Second cleaning pass before saving

After re-encoding, the file is rebuilt a second time. Only the new video track and any available audio track are carried over; metadata, chapters, subtitles and additional tracks are excluded again. The finished file is then decoded completely and is offered for saving only if that check succeeds.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a WebM file created?
WebM can be created entirely in the browser and played in current browsers and many applications. Re-encoding prevents old video or audio packets and their source information from being carried over.
Are faces, voices or visible content obscured?
No. The tool removes additional data from the video file. Anything visible in the picture or audible in the sound remains part of the new video.
Can the image quality change?
Yes. The video is re-encoded so that no additional data from the original tracks remains. The setting balances quality and file size.
Why does a long video take time?
Video and audio are recalculated entirely on your device. Duration, resolution and device performance determine the processing time.

How to use this tool
